In the Fall of 2017, two members of Spokane's community were diagnosed with cancer. Susan Webber, a lactation consultant and local artist was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kelly Vaughn, a local bartender and sexual violence activist was diagnosed with brain cancer. In an effort to raise funds, VHS: Visual Artists Helping Spokane, was born. VHS hosts monthly art shows at Resurrection Records. 1/3 of all profits go towards cancer funds, while the remaining 2/3 is given to the artist.

Nine months after Kelly and Susan's news, local artist and VHS participant Blaise Barshaw was diagnosed with throat cancer. Following Blaise's diagnosis, VHS has started a new project, COLOR CULT a coloring book zine.
